Getting started
with your template.

See how Google Sheets templates work, what you need, and where to begin.

How do I get a free workbook?

Choose a workbook and select Get free Google Sheets copy. No payment or email is required. You can also download a workbook file for importing into Google Sheets.

How do I make my own copy?

Select Get free Google Sheets copy. Sign in to Google, choose Make a copy, and save the template to your own Drive. You will work in your personal copy.

Where should I start?

Open Start Here, try the figures in Example, then fill in the yellow input cells with your own numbers. Review Dashboard to see your plan. Setup guidance and practice figures are included in the workbook.

Do I need to connect my bank?

No. Enter your numbers manually in your own spreadsheet. The templates do not connect to your bank, import transactions automatically, or make payments for you.

Can I use Excel?

An Excel version is not available. These templates require Google Sheets.

Can I use my phone?

You can browse and try the website previews on your phone. Use Google Sheets in a desktop browser to set up and edit your workbook.

How do I use the download?

Open Google Sheets on desktop, choose File → Import → Upload, and select the downloaded .xlsx file. Import it as a new spreadsheet. The supported editor is Google Sheets; native Excel compatibility is not guaranteed.

What if the copy link will not open?

Sign in to a Google account and try the copy link again. If a work or school account restricts external files, try a personal account or download and import the workbook.
